First published on Dec. 19, 1843, Dickens wrote âA Christmas Carolâ at a time when Britain was examining Christmas traditions from the past, such as carols, as well as exploring new customs, such as Christmas trees. The first edition sold out before Christmas Eve, just six days later.
The beloved story was written with the intent of bringing attention to the plight of Englandâs poor. With every famous âBah! Humbug!â audiences can relive the classical tale of Ebenezer Scrooge and his encounters with the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future.
