Lyceum in the ‘Fast Lane’: Eagles tribute band Disco Stranglers headline Oct. 17 Lee Hall performance

STARKVILLE, Miss.—From “Hotel California” to “Life in the Fast Lane,” fans of the legendary ’70s rock band Eagles are set to enjoy a night of hit singles and deep tracks from the Starkville-based Disco Stranglers this month.

Borrowing their name from an iconic song off “The Long Run,” Disco Stranglers is part of MSU’s 78th annual Lyceum Series, performing at 7 p.m., Oct. 17, at Lee Hall’s historic Bettersworth Auditorium.

Known for their start-to-finish cover of the classic 1976 album “Hotel California,” band members bring an authentic Eagles sound to every performance, which features steel, acoustic and electric guitars, mandolins, keyboards, bass and drums. The group was founded by and features numerous members with Mississippi ´ķĪķAPP ties, including Jerry Carnathan, Bill Cooke, Bob Damm, Drew Diekmann, Raymond Miller and Dale Robertson.

Additional Lyceum events scheduled for 7 p.m. in Lee Hall’s Bettersworth Auditorium include:

—Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Dec. 3. In collaboration with Music Maker Productions, Clarksdale native and global blues sensation Kingfish performs at MSU for the first time, following two previously postponed visits due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Kingfish has toured across North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. He has quickly become known as the defining blues voice of his generation.

—Ailey II, Feb. 11. One of America’s most celebrated dance companies, Ailey II combines the spirit of energy of the country’s best young dance talent with the creative vision of Artistic Director Francesca Harper, offering a fresh take on the legacy of acclaimed choreographer Alvin Ailey.

—Sonic Escape, Feb. 26. The flute and violin duo, founded by Shawn Wyckoff and Maria Kaneko Millar, reimagines classical music’s greatest hits. Known for their stage presence, Sonic Escape has performed at the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and more.

—Canadian Brass, March 18. With more than 135 albums and 24 combined Grammy and Juno nominations, Canadian Brass is among the world’s most revered brass ensembles. Performances blend classical favorites with jazz, opera and contemporary selections, including works by Joni Mitchell and Drake.
